At Ocean Pediatrics, we’re on a mission to transform the pediatric experience for every one of our families. We believe that pediatric care is so much more than the most advanced medical technologies and our patients’ physical health. It’s also about being an attentive listener, a source of endless support, and an empathetic guide — to gently nurture patients from infancy to adolescence and beyond.
Founder and Medical Director
Steven Abelowitz, MD, FAAP
Dr. Abelowitz is a leader in the field of pediatric medicine, with a vast expertise in academic and clinical settings. He has been treating children in the Orange County area for over 29 years.
Before founding Ocean Pediatrics, Dr. Abelowitz founded Coastal Kids Medical Group, where he oversaw 100+ physicians and 200 employees, throughout Orange, Los Angeles, Kern and San Bernardino counties. At Coastal Kids, he played an instrumental role in patient care and held clinical privileges at multiple esteemed institutions, including Orange County Medical Association, Hoag Presbyterian, Saddleback Memorial, and CHOC at Mission. He is also the former Medical Director and President of Newport Children’s Medical Group.
Dr. Abelowitz was voted as a Top Doctors Across America by his peers, and holds the distinction of being the first pediatrician voted as Doctor of the Month by the staff of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. Dr. Abelowitz has also received multiple nominations to act as the Chair of the Pediatric Department at Hoag Memorial and has served as the newborn nursery’s Physician Liaison. He has also received the Orange County Medical Association’s Top Doctor Award for Physicians of Excellence multiple times, and he has served as an Area Representative for the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Abelowitz is affiliated with some of the top professional organizations including American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, California Medical Association, and Orange County Medical Association. He also holds esteemed clinical and hospital affiliations with Memorialcare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach, Optum-Monarch Healthcare, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and Providence Health St Joseph-Hoag. He also holds medical and health advisory roles at multiple reputable organizations including Occipo, Emulait, and Myor.
He received his medical degree at the Hebrew University, Hadassah Medical School, graduating at the top of his class, and completed his pediatric residency at the University of California Irvine Medical Center, where he was named Resident of the Year. Today, he continues to contribute academically as an Adjunct Professor at USC’s Keck School of Medicine and was actively involved in the UCLA Teaching Program, enhancing medical education and training.
Dr. Abelowitz is a fluent speaker of English, Hebrew and Afrikaans. Today, he enjoys reading, theater, tennis, fitness, and spending time with his partner and three children.
